Keeping the exterior of one’s car clean is hard enough, let alone keeping an exposed interior clean. So if you have a convertible, follow these 3 tips to keeping it clean.

Use the Proper Cleaner for Convertible Top

First things first, make sure you keep the top clean. For hardtop convertible owners, this is pretty easy. They can wash their top the same way they would the rest of their car simply because it is the same material and coating. If you have a vinyl or cloth top, you have to treat it differently. If you are not sure what kind of material your top is, consult your owner’s manual. It is important to know what type of material you are cleaning. Once you know the material, you can purchase a cleaner that is dedicated to that kind of convertible top. For cloth, you’ll want to lightly scrub the top using the cloth cleaner. You’ll also want to apply a water repellent at regular intervals. For vinyl you can use a brush to scrub the vinyl top cleaner. You also might want to use a mildew repellent if you live in a more humid area. You should also consider applying a vinyl protectant that helps prevent fading in the sun and creates a waterproof seal.

When Not in Use – Close the Top

This may seem obvious, but we can’t tell you how many top down convertibles we’ve seen parked out in the rain. The skies may look clear but you never know when an impromptu rainfall is going to occur. Heck, the weatherman usually doesn’t get it right either.

Mother nature aside, there are also a ton of other things that can get in your vehicle when your top is down. Insects, critters, dust, dirt, leaves, and more can all get into your exposed convertible. Plus, you know birds are just waiting for some target practice.

Get Car Seat Covers

Finally, get yourself some nice car seat covers. These will help protect the interior of your car from UV rays, dirt, sand, and liquids which can all harm your seats especially since your interior is exposed to the elements. Our neoprene car seat covers are custom-fitted to your vehicle and can be designed to look just how you want them. So they not only protect your car’s seats but they also can help reflect your personal style.
