For our Make/Model Spotlight this month, we’ll take a look at the luxurious Lexus ES and highlight the 350. Lexus is well known as a higher-end luxury car brand. The ES is one of their more common options but still holds its head high in the luxury category. Let’s take a look at the Lexus ES.

The Lexus ES

The Lexus ES got its start in 1989 and have since gone through six generations. Coming from a prominent Japanese automaker, the Lexus was built on the Toyota Camry platform for its first five generations. The vehicle has been available in a compact, mid-size, and even executive car. The initial first generation was launched in ‘89 as a smaller version of the two sedans that Lexus offered. The ES 250 was powered by the Camry’s 2.5 L, V6 engine. The first generation would last only until 1991, when the second generation was introduced.

Let’s fast-forward to the fifth generation, about a decade and a half into the future. The fifth-generation, offered in February of 2006, consisted of the Lexus ES 350. The front-wheel drive vehicle now sported a V6, 3.5 L engine. Aesthetically speaking, the new generation was much sleeker than the previous iteration. The Lexus emblem made its way back to the front grille, something that hadn’t been there since the first generation.

The interior boasted luxurious walnut wood accents, leather seats, dual zone climate control, and much more. Keyless entry and Lexus SmartAccess were also brought on to make this sedan feel that much more luxurious. The fifth-generation would last from 2006 through 2012. In 2009, the ES underwent some modifications to give it a refreshing feel mid-cycle. This revamp was well received as the Lexus ES 350 won the “2009 Best Upscale Car for the Money”.

The Lexus ES is now in its sixth-generation, in which a hybrid ES version was released. In 2015 a mid-cycle revamp was released. The ES is manufactured in Fukuoka, Japan for all markets other than North America. The plant in Kentucky serves as the ES 350 manufacturer for North America.
